MW4 2010
Held at Jones Day in Washington, DC on October 23, 2010, the fourth annual Machik Weekend featured roundtables and opportunities for exchange with recent volunteers and other Machik supporters. This year’s roundtable discussion focused on the Summer Enrichment Program, Volunteerism and China, and Social Business. Panelists and guests alike shared their experiences and insights on how individuals can contribute to Machik's groundbreaking work on the Tibetan Plateau. Following the panel discussions was a breakout session where Machik supporters new and old could contribute to conversations on each of the roundtable topics. The afternoon concluded with a plenary session on Global Civic Engagement. The evening dinner provided further opportunity for friends and supporters to connect and collaborate. Filmmaker Pema Tseden, recipient of the 2010 Machik Spirit Award, was able to call in and accept his award. The Machik Youth Spirit Award was presented to longtime Summer Enrichment Program volunteer Sonia Jarrett. Throughout the day, many individuals pledged to continue working with Machik. We are inspired and encouraged by the strong interest generated by the discussions, in part because the weekend also highlighted the launch of our High School Education Campaign. We are grateful to Jones Day Law Firm and especially to Jason Leif, Partner at Jones Day, for their generous donation of the Jones Day Board Room. Thanks also to Anne Donovan for her kind assistance with planning. Donations were also graciously provided by Dolcezza, Biago Chocolate, Schakolad, Robeks, Dupont Circle Wine and Liquor, Au Bon Pain, and and the Dupont Circle branch of Firehook Bakery. |
